Amy Rasmussen is the Director and Owner of the Artios Academies of Grand Haven and has a heart for people and discipleship. She says the only thing worth missing a good night’s sleep for is a deep conversation. She lives in Grand Haven, Michigan with her husband of 27 years, Erik Rasmussen. They have five children ranging in age from 26-12. They have enjoyed the homeschooling journey tremendously and consider it a great privilege to partner with other parents with this passion and calling. Amy also serves in her church teaching children the Bible. In her spare time she enjoys walking and getting tea with friends, gentle yoga and the Y, reading, studying God’s word and worshiping Him in the great outdoors.
Christy is a West Michigan native, growing up in Holland in her childhood years and settling in Spring Lake after marrying her husband Paul. After graduating from Michigan Technological University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, she spent 10 years working as a manufacturing engineer and database developer. Christy then left her career to start a family and to stay home with their two daughters. Homeschooling was not initially on her radar, but she is now entering year four and can’t imagine schooling any other way (or without Artios to partner with).
Christy loves all things related to organizing and planning! She loves serving others using these gifts and finding ways to help her Artios community grow and stay connected and prepared. In her free time, she enjoys crafting, photography, baking, cooking, walking and spreadsheets.
Casey Adams is passionate about anything that has to do with acting, singing or dancing! She has been taking classical ballet classes since she was 11 years old and has trained with Ballet Magnificat!, The Grand Rapids Ballet Company, Turning Pointe School of Dance, Coopersville Dance Company and various private lessons. Casey has been the choreographer for Allendale Public Schools, Homeschool Performing Arts, Midway Theater Company, and the assistant director and choreographer for the Grand Haven Artios Academies musicals for the past three years. Casey is the Artistic Director and Co-Founder of For His Glory Ballet. She also is a vet assistant at Allendale Animal Hospital. Casey loves teaching students about the arts but also enjoys performing as well! In her free time, she enjoys running marathons with her dad, dancing around the house, being a part-time princess performer and taking ballet classes.
Preparatory: Middle School & High School Literature
Meghan Akers is in her second year teaching Literature at Artios Academies of Grand Haven. Meghan obtained a degree in Literature from Patrick Henry College and has taught homeschoolers in Virginia, English teachers in China, and her own children in various unconventional classrooms (preferably the beach). Along with her husband and their four little adventurers, she divides her time between Spring Lake, Mackinac Island, and the distant realms of her family’s favorite books. Teaching the creative and talented students at Artios has been a joy and privilege for Meghan.
Preparatory: Elementary Literature & History
As a little girl, it was Jennifer’s dream to become a mom and a teacher. Now, she is a homeschooling mom of four wonderful children and the elementary literature and history teacher at Artios Academies in Grand Haven. She enjoys leading worship with her enthusiastic, bright-colored-shoe wearing husband, Phil, and working with the middle school girls in the church youth group. She has been blessed to serve on numerous mission trips in the states and overseas, including student teaching in Ethiopia. In her “spare time” she loves to travel, sew, read and play games. She finds great joy in spending time with her family and friends. This is Jennifer’s second year teaching at Artios Academies, and she has been greatly blessed by being part of this amazing community.
Miss Jessica was born in California and raised in Michigan. She began pursuing the arts at a young age, and has since been involved (whether performing, directing, choreographing, dancing, etc.) in over 40 productions. Miss Jessica has been trained in voice, acting and dance. Currently, she works as the Grand Rapids and Lansing choreographer for Homeschool Performing Arts, along with directing their program for 8-12 year old students. She is an artistic coach for a new ministry called Unmuted, which proclaims scripture dramatically. She also works with various high schools and theatres throughout West Michigan as a choreographer and dance teacher. Miss Jessica was the former Co-Artistic Director and Choreographer for For His Glory Ballet in Allendale, which she helped start in 2008.
She is married to her wonderful husband Adam, whom she met while playing the role of Peter Pan, and him performing as Captain Hook. They currently live in Wyoming, MI. Jessica enjoys the outdoors, hiking, mountains, sunrises, audio books, coffee, photography and shopping.
Miss Jessica has been a theatre teacher and drama director at Artios Academies for the past three years and has a passion for teaching and mentoring students through theatre and inspiring them towards excellence.
Andrea spent 15 years teaching math at Oakridge High School and loves connecting math to the world around us for her students. Mathematics is a wonderful way to describe God’s creation. She has three children and a wonderful husband, Jeremy. They attend Harvest Bible Church and serve as small group leaders, as well as in the Children’s Ministry. Andrea enjoys traveling and playing the piano.
Jake energetically strives to disciple and serve those around him. His gifts, passions and abilities are divinely orchestrated to serve in his primary role as Student Ministries Pastor. He is married to the most beautiful, kind and loving woman, Tiffany, for over 8 years, and they live in Norton Shores with their 3 beautiful children, Aaliyah (5), Owen (3), and Baby (expecting). They all enjoy serving in youth ministry. Jake has been in student ministries since 2006 all over the country, and full-time in Muskegon since 2014. Jake has degrees in Bible, youth ministry and a Master of Divinity. Jake was first introduced to the Artios family 2 years ago through another passion of his, media arts. Over the years, his role at Artios has grown and developed, and it is his pleasure to be able to teach and disciple this year through teaching and developing Medieval history and how God used this time in such a way that still directs our steps today.
Elementary Science: Astronomy
Jill Kelly is excited to be teaching Elementary Science: Astronomy this year. While she enjoys teaching, she LOVES learning. She has taught and learned alongside her children at home for over 10 years. Science is and has been her favorite subject for as long as she can remember. Science gives us a closer glimpse at how miraculous and intricate our Creator is. Oftentimes on a grand scale, God pays perfect attention to the finest of details.
Sara Visker is currently the Art teacher at Artios Academies. After graduating with a degree in Education and a minor in Art from Calvin College, she has enjoyed teaching Art in various capacities for many years, including Quisqueya School in Haiti, Kalamazoo Advantage Academy and Clearwater Co-op of Lake Michigan. Sara has loved living in the tri-cities for the last thirteen years raising her three children, as well as fostering and hosting foreign exchange students with her husband Nathan. She can’t wait to see how God is going to powerfully reveal Himself through the creativity of your children this year in Art class.
